Blog Date 6 - PLANET LOUIE and the quickie wiki

Steven and I now have a better understanding of what a wiki actually is and how it works.

Being able to freely share information on a subject, use links to other sites or wiki's of interest and having an easy edit (no skill required) format makes wiki's a very attractive way of sharing info.

One thing that we are now both very aware of though - wiki's are the product of individual views, recollections and research - there is a lot of valuable information, but if you are using it as a source of fact it may pay to have a back up reference........... just in case it turns out to be fiction.

Blog Date 5 - PLANETLOUIE and the Photo

Go FLICKR! - excellent site for searching out different views of the world. Steve and I had fun looking for images of places we have visited on our travels. The picture we have selected for our blog is of the Norman church in the village of Bedale in North Yorkshire - it's the village where my Auntie lives. We used the tag search functionality to select the image - very helpful tool. The image is courtesy of dvdbramhall photostream.

Blog Date 4 - PLANETLOUIE and the World

Well Steve and I had a little fun with map creation at http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/.

It was good exercise in image manipulation but it's highlighted how many countries we still have to visit in order to achieve universal domination!

Blog Date 3 - PLANETLOUIE and Steve go RSS'ing

It was a somewhat challenging mission. I was tettering on the brink of avoiding exercise 2 altogether, but was pulled back from the edge by the hundreds of people (slight exageration) who lept to my aid (quite possibly to stop my moaning).

Steve was a tower of strength, even though he didn't understand the instructions. The little blackbird who kindly offered to work on the task with me was awesome but somewhat erratic in her page navigation. So by this stage I had worked out that the instructions didn't help, nor did random mouse clicks on every link available.

So I resorted to one on one tutition with a web guru (you know who you are - stop blushing!!!)

At 3:40pm on Monday 7th July success - I was told that what I had done the week previous was correct - oh the joy, the elation and dare I say it the deflation.

Whilst I now understand the process and the benefits of RSS, the exercise itself left this little pink planet with a sense of incompleteness. Call me sad but I like knowing when I've finished something - e.g. when I take over the universe and everyone is wearing blue tartan I will know that my mission is complete.

Take heed Exercise Setters - you must cater for all personality types (especially completer finishers!)
